We were proud to see the work being done across two University of Sydney Rural Health Precinct locations recognised and published this week.
Identifying barriers and facilitators to primary care practitioners implementing health assessments for people with intellectual disability: a Theoretical Domains Framework-informed scoping review has been published in Implementation Science Communications (Volume 5, Article number: 39 2024).
The article is the work of Paul Caltabiano, a 2023 University of Sydney MD research student at the School of Rural Health (Dubbo/Orange). Paul was based in Dubbo and supervised by Dr Jodie Bailie who is based here at UCRH in Lismore.
The article explores how and why people with intellectual disability experience poorer health outcomes compared with the general population, partly due to the difficulties of accessing preventive care in primary care settings.
It is fantastic to see our rural network working across distances and career stages to support and facilitate medical students contributing to rural research. Congratulations to Paul, Jodie and all the contributing authors.
