No, this isn’t Grey’s Anatomy training, this is Grey Patient Scenario training!
Our fifth-year medical students from Western Sydney University recently participated in their first Grey Patient Scenario session with Dr Martin Duffy, FACEM and UCRH Lismore Critical Care Academic Lead.
What is a Grey Patient Scenario (GPS) you ask? Grey patient cases are often tricky and never black and white. This kind of training is called grey because it is about helping the next generation of doctors learn how to sift out noise – literal and figurative – so they can see the real patient and better understand their symptoms and needs. Like the other GPS we all know – the system in our phones and cars – this medical training helps students be guided, rather than taught, to get to the right outcome for patients, by learning together about clinical reasoning.
