Select Committee on Australia’s Disaster Resilience

UCRH is leading the Northern Rivers arm of a qualitative study about community-led Self-Organising Following Disaster.

The study aims to explore community-led organising before, during and after disasters. For the Northern Rivers, the work will focus on the aftermath of the 2022 floods. The study has been designed and data collected by Jo Longman, Emma Pittaway, Jodie Bailie and Maddy Braddon from UCRH, with the support of a large team of co-investigators from University of Sydney’s Sydney Environment Institute.

Other teams are using case studies in the Blue Mountains and the Hawkesbury to inform the study.

Preliminary findings from our Northern Rivers work were presented at a recent Research Seminar and preliminary findings from the whole project have been included in a submission to a Senate Select Committee on Australia’s Disaster Resilience, led by Senator Jacqui Lambie.
