We’re excited to reach a major milestone in an important project designed to upgrade to our Clinical Placement Management System. After working closely with our University of Sydney colleagues at the Broken Hill UDRH and with technology provider DVE Solutions, we’re ready to transition to Placements Plus, a more modern, flexible platform that better supports our students and staff.
This upgrade will improve how we work, how we communicate, and how we support students during this important part of their training: clinical placements.
Placements Plus offers a range of features that help us do this more effectively. The mobile-friendly student portal makes it easier for students to stay informed and engaged, no matter where they are. Real-time dashboards allow us to identify students who may need extra support and respond quickly. And integrated communication tools mean we can keep students updated with less delay and more clarity.
The decision to move to Placements Plus followed recommendations from review of the Rural Health Multidisciplinary Training program undertaken by the Australian Government. This highlighted the need for a unified system across the university. We’ve taken that recommendation seriously, and have worked hard to ensure the new system reflects the needs of our rural context.
Since August 2024, our team in Lismore has been working closely with Broken Hill and DVE to refine our processes and tailor the system to our environment. Following extensive development and data migration, as well as significant training for our staff to help them get up to speed, we’re now ready to switch from the old system to the new.
The transition will be made in coming weeks and we know there will be many benefits, not just for our team, but for the students we support. The upgrade is part of our broader commitment to continuous improvement and to ensuring that rural health education is responsive, student-centred, and future-focused.
