Welcoming Dr Pramod Durgakeri as our new academic lead for surgery

We’re delighted to announce that Dr Pramod Durgakeri has officially stepped into the role of Academic Lead for Surgery here at UCRH.

Many of our students and staff will already know Pramod through his teaching over the past three years. He’s a general surgeon based at Northern Rivers Surgeons and Lismore Base Hospital, where he performs a wide range of procedures including bowel surgery, thyroid operations, and skin cancer treatments.

Pramod brings a wealth of experience to this new leadership role. He trained in Melbourne and spent many years working there before making the move north. He’s now been living in the Northern Rivers region for about four years and says he’s never looked back.

“I love the relaxed atmosphere here,” Pramod told us. “It’s a huge bonus not having to spend hours in the car every day. The people are friendly, and the work environment is really positive, it’s a great place to be.”

Outside of the operating theatre, Pramod enjoys woodwork, fishing, and gardening. He’s enthusiastic about sharing his love for general surgery with the next generation of doctors and is keen to use his new role to inspire students to consider it as a career path.

“There are a lot of misconceptions about what general surgery involves,” he said. “I want to help break those down and show students how rewarding and diverse this field can be.”

We’re thrilled to have Pramod leading our surgical education team. His commitment to teaching, combined with his clinical expertise and genuine care for our community, makes him a fantastic fit for UCRH.

Welcome aboard, Pramod!
