The UCRH welcomes 18 new medical students from the University of Western Sydney. The students will be living in Lismore for a year-long rural placement as part of their MBBS degree. During their stay they will get a feel for what it is like to work and live in a regional area.

Whilst here they will undertake medical attachments at Lismore Base Hospital and General Practices and Aboriginal Medical Services throughout the region. Another component of their study is a community research project focusing on a local topic.

Students also attend a comprehensive teaching program at the University Centre for Rural Health which incorporates Aboriginal health, social awareness and responsibility, specialist lectures and clinical skills. We look forward to sharing the students’ rural journey in 2015-16
