UCRH Director and Head of Rural Clinical School Professor Vicki Flood today welcomed members of the NSW Regional Health Ministerial Advisory Panel, led by Chair Dr Richard Colbran, Chief Executive Officer of NSW Rural Doctors Network, to meet with our staff.
The meeting was part of a visit to Lismore by the Panel as they go about their work providing insight and ideas on the issues facing regional NSW and bringing together perspectives about what needs to be done to ensure regional communities have access to high quality health services. The NSW Minister for Health, the Hon Ryan Park, has encouraged innovative thinking about these issues so we were excited by the opportunity to talk about the work being done at UCRH.
We gave the Panel members an overview of UCRH’s medical and allied health education programs; a rundown on the work done in our Simulation Centre and through our collaboration with the Northern NSW Local Health District to operate the Northern NSW Regional Training Hub; and provided insight into the streams and projects covered through our research work.
The discussions were far-reaching and we appreciated the obvious and genuine interest of the Panel members. We were pleased to have this opportunity to convey the work we do, and to provide our thoughts on some of the pressing challenges facing rural health practitioners and services.
We look forward to continuing these conversations in future meetings.
