Film Night: Our Generation

Get the popcorn ready for our first film night of the year.

From 5pm on Wednesday 2 August in our Lecture Theatre we will be showing the film, ‘Our Generation’ a documentary that presents a first-hand view of the experiences of remote Aboriginal communities in the Northern Territory.

The film is a passionate and powerful Aboriginal-led response to the Federal Government’s Northern Territory Intervention and subsequent ‘Stronger Futures’ policy and the NT Government’s Homelands policy. The film is set in the remote community of Galiwin’ku on Elcho Island in NE Arnhem Land presenting the voices of the Yolngu people then widening to the broader context of concerns that many other Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples share: the systematic human rights violations, exclusion from economic and political power, territorial dispossession and cultural repression.
