Global visitors explore simulation in Lismore

A recent visit to the University Centre for Rural Health shows how rural health education in Australia can lead on the world stage. As part of the 2026 Laerdal Simulation User Network Conference, UCRH welcomed an international delegation keen to see how we train students using simulation.

Hosted in partnership with Laerdal, the group included delegates from Kiang Wu Nursing College of Macau and Hong Kong Metropolitan University. With strong nursing backgrounds, they were especially interested in how tools like MamaAnne and Sim Capture are used in everyday teaching.

During their visit, the delegation toured the UCRH Simulation Centre and met with Director Professor Vicki Flood, Dr Richard Mahoney (recently joined UCRH as Senior Lecturer Medical Education) and Clinical Skills and Simulation Educator Rebecca Austin. They also observed a live session, where students from the University of Sydney and University of Wollongong were practising clinical skills using MamaAnne.

The visit was a chance to share ideas, compare approaches, and see how simulation can support safer care in real communities. It also highlighted the value of partnerships that go beyond borders.
