Baribunmani Wanyi Ngay returns with bumper attendance

Yesterday UCRH hosted the second Baribunmani Wanyi Ngay youth program for 2024, with around 60 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander high school students attending to learn about careers in health.

Baribunmani Wanyi Ngay is a Bundjalung phrase that means ‘I dreamed about you’ and reflects the key message of the program: careers in health are attainable for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people.

The students at yesterday’s session came to UCRH from:

  • St John’s College Woodlawn
  • Mullumbimby High School
  • Trinity Catholic College
  • Kingscliff High School
  • Tweed River High School
  • South Grafton High School
  • Grafton High School
  • Sathya Sai College Murwillumbah
  • Richmond River High School

With help from a range of URCH clinical educators and students on placement with use, the high schoolers participated in a simulation skills workshop, learning how hospital-based pharmacists dispense medication and also rotated through various skills stations learning getting hands-on tips around occupational therapy and basic life support.

It was a fantastic day that would not have been possible without the support and enthusiasm of all the schools involved and without the support of the amazing students on placement with us who were so generous with their time and knowledge.
