07 Jun Nutrition and Dietetics Placement at Rapville Public School
Griffith University Nutrition and Dietetics students have completed their 21-week long stay placement through the UCRH under the supervision of Clinical Educators, Nicola Buster, Bronwyn Morton and Narelle Greenlees.
During their placement, students undertook placement blocks in Food Service Management, Medical Nutrition Therapy, Community and Public Health Nutrition.
When reflecting on their recent Community placement at Rappville Public School, the students remarked,
“We truly believe we have been so lucky to have been placed out at Rappville Public School for a total of 6 weeks. Our project has been around supporting the school to grow their own vegetables and bring their produce into the community via a stand at the front of the school. We have also interacted with the students to conduct fun and engaging nutrition-related activities and involve ourselves as much as possible with the community whilst on this placement. We have been working closely with the teachers and principal to design and conduct appropriate nutrition activities such as poem writing, short story writing, drawing, taste testing and a cooking class.
We have also been creating a bunch of resources including educational flash cards, recipe cards and educational resources for the parents; all of which we have weaved through the students’ drawings, quotes and poems. Whilst on placement, we were invited to join the schools grandparent’s day so had a fun afternoon joining the students with their beef-week activities including heel-toe dancing, boot throwing, whip cracking and cooeeing.
Throughout the 6-week placement, we have had regular check-ins with our supervisor gaining invaluable guidance, insight and feedback so that we have felt confident, supported and encouraged helping us to truly have such an amazing placement experience.”
