The UCRH main campus is in Lismore and the Grafton campus is co-located on the Grafton Base hospital site. Lismore sits within the Lismore health precinct, linked to the Lismore Base Hospital and the facility, inclusive of land that is owned by The University of Sydney.

 

Each of the sites has a fully functional Clinical Simulation Centre, state of the art video conferencing facilities and meeting rooms. All sites have fully refurbished student accommodation available.

 

Facility Overview

The UCRH Lismore campus is located within the Lismore Health Precinct. Facilities supporting the students including accommodation,  state-of-the-art simulation, clinical skills labs, video conferencing and educational teaching facilities are encompassed within Lismore is able to offer placements across medicine, nursing and allied health disciplines. The facility offers a unique and exciting rural opportunity for students from all disciplines and a range of universities.

The completion of a Clinical Simulation Centre in 2014 has enhanced the training facility. State-of-the art high-fidelity manikins, part task training equipment and skills based scenarios have been incorporated into the teaching suite to enrich both the student and local clinical education experiences.

 

Accommodation

The UCRH manage limited short and long term accommodation within the Lismore hub. All students staying in UCRH managed accommodation are charged a facilities fee.

  • Lounge and dining rooms with both LCD TVs and DVD players.
  • Laundry facilities including dryers
  • Access to afterhours library study area and the hospital.

Teaching at Lismore

Lismore provides education programs for students, student supervisors and health professionals. These programs include face to face tutorials and case based learning, clinical workshops, simulation scenarios, various specialist lectures and tutorials, virtual clinics, video-conferenced lectures and links to home university and research support.

For supervisors and health professionals there are a large range of education programs run out of our centre, organised by UCRH, NNSWLHD and Medicare collaboratively where appropriate.

Examples include:

Trauma Training,  GP Emergency courses, Advanced Life Support courses, CPR courses, Specialist update seminars and Simulation Scenario based courses.

The majority of education programs are multi-disciplinary and we actively promote Inter-professional learning opportunities for students and health professionals.

 

Student Placements

Lismore currently provides student placements for over twenty universities in health science disciplines. To request a placement please complete an online application.

Facility Overview

The UCRH site at Grafton is located onsite at the Grafton Base Hospital, located a few blocks away from the town centre. Grafton Base Hospital is a Level 3 -4 Base Hospital within the Northern NSW Local Health District.

It provides acute medical, surgical, orthopaedic, paediatric, anaesthetic, geriatric, maternity and obstetric, high dependency and acute care, renal, oncology, palliative care, emergency, some specialist outpatient service and day surgery facilities to the people of Grafton and the Clarence Valley. There is also a large range of Community health services including: Aboriginal Health Mental health Rehabilitation and Extended Care (non hospital), Drug and Alcohol, Sexual Health, Children’s and Women’s Health. Grafton also has a Super Clinic and student placements are provided within other small towns and hospitals of the Clarence valley including Maclean and Yamba.

Grafton is able to offer placements across medicine, nursing and allied health disciplines. The facility offers a unique and exciting rural opportunity for students from all disciplines and a range of universities.

 

Accommodation             

Short term student accommodation is available on site at Grafton Base Hospital. There are 25 refurbished rooms, modern communal bathrooms and fully equipped kitchens. Each student room is air-conditioned and has a small desk and reading lamp. Linen is provided.

  • Secure access to Library and hospital.

All students are charged a weekly facilities fee for accommodation. Students are provided with a unique opportunity to meet and socialise with other students.

Getting around in Grafton

  • Timetables for Grafton’s Bus ways buses are available from http://www.busways.com.au/.
  • The bus route that stops outside the hospital will take students down town.
  • Grafton Taxi’s can be contacted on 131008.

 

How can I get to the beach without a car?

  • A bus service runs from Grafton to Yamba on a regular basis every day. See the
  • Busways website http://www.busways.com.au/ for further information. The hospital has a swimming pool that students can access.

How can I get to Grafton?

Library and computer access

A well-Stocked library is accessible after hours with up to date resources donated by the University Medical schools and UCRH. Computer and Internet access is available 24 hours in the student computer room in the library. There is no wireless internet available from the accommodation centre.

 

Teaching at Grafton

Grafton provides a variety of educational programs for students, supervisors and health professionals. This includes monthly student led grand rounds, hospital based in services and weekly case based tutorials. The provision of the Simulated Learning and teaching facility is providing state-of-the art teaching and learning experiences for students – inclusive of multi-disciplinary focused team based scenarios.

 

Student Placements

Grafton’s student placements include a large number of medical and nursing students, as well as students from various Allied Health disciplines. UCRH Grafton Facilities

Facility Overview

The UCRH Lismore Campus manages the student accommodation facility and student placement at the Ballina District Hospital site. The accommodation facility is located on the corner of Cherry and Fox Streets Ballina.

Ballina District Hospital (BDH) is a local community, level 3 rural hospital, within the Northern New South Wales Local Health District, providing care to over 8,300 patients every year. The hospital has over 17,800 Emergency attendances annually.

The Northern NSW LHD provides an Oral Health service co-located within the Ballina District Hospital grounds. Students Sydney University undertake these clinical placements at the facility.

 

Accommodation            

The opening of the Student accommodation facility on the BDH site in 2013: four apartments (18 bedrooms with ensuites) has had significant impact for students placed in Ballina. The accommodation is modern, serviced and equipped with modern kitchen/laundry and electronic services.

The close proximity to not only the hospital placement, but to beaches, town services and entertainment reduces the need for students own transport.

 

Teaching

The Lismore campus provides for a variety of educational programs for students, supervisor and health professionals. Were appropriate these are undertaken at the Ballina education campus co-located adjacent to the student accommodation.
