Facility Overview
The UCRH site at Grafton is located onsite at the Grafton Base Hospital, located a few blocks away from the town centre. Grafton Base Hospital is a Level 3 -4 Base Hospital within the Northern NSW Local Health District.
It provides acute medical, surgical, orthopaedic, paediatric, anaesthetic, geriatric, maternity and obstetric, high dependency and acute care, renal, oncology, palliative care, emergency, some specialist outpatient service and day surgery facilities to the people of Grafton and the Clarence Valley. There is also a large range of Community health services including: Aboriginal Health Mental health Rehabilitation and Extended Care (non hospital), Drug and Alcohol, Sexual Health, Children’s and Women’s Health. Grafton also has a Super Clinic and student placements are provided within other small towns and hospitals of the Clarence valley including Maclean and Yamba.
Grafton is able to offer placements across medicine, nursing and allied health disciplines. The facility offers a unique and exciting rural opportunity for students from all disciplines and a range of universities.
Accommodation
Short term student accommodation is available on site at Grafton Base Hospital. There are 25 refurbished rooms, modern communal bathrooms and fully equipped kitchens. Each student room is air-conditioned and has a small desk and reading lamp. Linen is provided.

All students are charged a weekly facilities fee for accommodation. Students are provided with a unique opportunity to meet and socialise with other students.

How can I get to the beach without a car?

Library and computer access
A well-Stocked library is accessible after hours with up to date resources donated by the University Medical schools and UCRH. Computer and Internet access is available 24 hours in the student computer room in the library. There is no wireless internet available from the accommodation centre.
Teaching at Grafton
Grafton provides a variety of educational programs for students, supervisors and health professionals. This includes monthly student led grand rounds, hospital based in services and weekly case based tutorials. The provision of the Simulated Learning and teaching facility is providing state-of-the art teaching and learning experiences for students – inclusive of multi-disciplinary focused team based scenarios.
Student Placements
Grafton’s student placements include a large number of medical and nursing students, as well as students from various Allied Health disciplines.
