15 May Exciting new placements for Exercise Physiology students in Lismore
So you know we have allied health students in pre-schools, schools and aged care facilities, right? Well, now we are sending them to university for their placement.
Sound odd? Not really, and we are very excited that University of Sydney (USyd) Exercise Physiology (EP) students are undertaking their placement at Southern Cross University (SCU) Health Clinic and will provide exercise physiology services in the student-led clinic as well as through Spinal Cord Injuries Australia at NeuroMoves. UCRH has brokered this arrangement between the two universities to have six USyd EP students start on 14 May 2018. Further groups of 4th year or Master USyd students will continue to provide student-led clinics at SCU Health Clinic through the year. These students will take the lead in client care under the supervision of Accredited Exercise Physiologists.
Students will work with clients with a wide range of conditions offering services to those that self-refer and those with chronic and complex conditions like stage two cardiac and pulmonary rehabilitation.
NeuroMoves offers services to those affected by spinal cord and brain injuries as well as those with other neurological conditions. Placement at NeuroMoves is quite hands on, assisting clients through exercise sessions.
Getting to this implementation stage has relied on hard work and goodwill from many people involved from UCRH, SCU and University of Sydney. This collaboration will benefit the students, staff and those attending the clinic. The staff of SCU and SCU Health Clinic have been extremely accommodating and we look forward to reaping the rewards in the near future.
