POET – Post-Operative Emergency Training @ UCRH Nyumbalihgu Simulation Centre

Target Audience: Registered Nurses, Enrolled Nurses, Junior Medical Officers and Ambulance Officers who Care for post-operative patients.

Course Overview: This four hour workshop is designed to enhance the knowledge and skills required to manage post-operative emergencies. The workshop features a combination of lectures and immersive simulation scenarios. The immersive scenarios provide the participant with the opportunity to practice their teamwork and communication skills while caring for a patient with a post-operative emergency.
Specific topics include: Pulmonary Embolus, Hypovolaemic Shock, Post-operative Sepsis and Fluid Overload.

The Essential Airway Skills simulation workshop is designed to provide practical and hands on experience in airway management.
Included will be a brief presentation, clinical skills and immersive scenarios.

“Using airway maneuvers, adjuncts & Laryngeal Mask Airways ” Bag Valve Mask” How to effectively ventilate a patient using a Bag Valve Mask
“Advanced Airway Interventions” in the critically ill patient including RSI and Surgical Airway
“Case Studies” from the Emergency Department and the Pre-hospital environment

Course Overview
This two‐day ALS Program is suitable for health professionals in the provision of adult advanced life support in a clinical setting.  Accredited by the Australian College of Critical Care Nurses (ACCCN) and based on the latest 2016 Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) guidelines, the program includes a comprehensive Adult ALS manual, access to an E‐learning quiz, plus a 2‐day interactive workshop including assessment and certification.

Introduction to Simulation

Workshop Overview: This workshop is designed to provide participants with knowledge of the basics of simulation, provide an orientation to simulation labs, teamwork and develop, conduct and evaluate simulation scenarios.

Basics of Debriefing

Workshop Overview: The aim of this workshop is to develop the knowledge and skills required to conduct learner centred debriefing sessions. The benefits of learner centred debriefing are explored along with the various debriefing theories and techniques. Participants will also be given the opportunity to apply the various techniques by conducting supervised debriefs of actual scenarios.

Cost: $100 inc GST.  Morning tea and light lunch included.
